JAH LEP was born Rayan Michael Hinds in September 1986, at the Annotto Bay Hospital in
Portland, St. Mary, Jamaica. At an early age he was exposed to music by a Rastafarian uncle
who use to sing and played the kette drum, which caught lep’s attention and admiration from a
tender age. It was while attending Titchfield High School though, exposed to rap on the 25-mile
bus ride to and from school. He developed a passion for rap music listening to artistes such as
Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls, DMX, Eminem, Jay-Z, and Nas. Still loving His culture music
(Reggae was also influenced by reggae pioneers such as Reggae King Bob Marley, Dennis
Brown, Beres Hammond, Maxi Priest, Shabba Ranks, Bounty Killer and Buju Banton. While at
Titchfield JAH LEP met and became close friends with young aspiring Rapper Nyrone Walfall
aka NYRONE,both practicing flows and to write Rhymes recording leps first Demo in the
summer of 2004 a song Called ‘PLAYAHATERS’ which also featured Nyrone and close friend GThugz.
In 2010 JAH LEP became a member of the DANCEHALL LEGEND BOUNTY KILLER
led ALLIANCE camp welcomed by his musical brother and fellow Portlander Eric ‘IYARA’
Somers and recorded a single together Called ’Squeeze Triggers’ then recording 3 songs for
Grammy Winning Producer Austin ‘Payday” Green on his ‘PAYDAY MUSIC’ Label, from there
his professional Career officially began.
